Core Modalities
At Massage Harrisburg, all massage sessions are designed to address structural issues, relieve pain, and improve function. My specialties include RAPID NFR and Myoskeletal Alignment Technique, along with the variety of modalities listed below.
Please note I do not provide relaxation or spa-style massage. Every session is therapeutic, customized to correct imbalance and restore mobility.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the connective tissue between your skin and muscles. Using slow, consistent pressure allows the fascia (connective tissue) to elongate, relieving areas of chronic tension. This is usually performed on targeted areas, such as the neck and shoulders, or lower body.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy is a soft tissue technique that works to release painful, tension in muscles and fascia that you would usually experience as a knot in the muscle. By applying pressure to the knots in the muscle, we can release the tension in the individual muscle cells. This allows the muscle to return to its normal length. As the muscle cells return to their normal length, the pressure on the collagen sheath is released, and the neighboring muscle cells are no longer being pulled. This can provide relief from pain and tension in the muscle.
Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic Massage is a multidisciplinary approach to relieve pain caused by dysfunctional joints and injuries. It focuses on the soft tissue surrounding the joints that create movement or limit its range. Recommended session length is 30-90 minutes, depending on the complexity of the injury and goals.
Cupping
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which special cups are placed on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. By decompressing the tissue (lifting it away from the body), it helps release adhesions in the fascia (connective tissue between your skin and muscles), as well as improve circulation, increase mobility and range of motion, and relieves trigger points. NOTE: cupping may produce areas of redness, and in some cases bruising that can last up to a week.
